"Capital B" From the Balenciaga Spring 2024

Demna develops complexity and refinement to provide Garde-Robe eyeglasses and day-to-night necessities.

What lurks behind 10 Avenue George V's doors? "Capital B" spring 2024 Balenciaga series.
Demna follows the mantra of Winter 2023 in a single, uninterrupted shot directed by Mau Morgó and set to BFRND's cover of Édith Piaf's "Sous le Ciel de Paris." Demna insists that "the art of making clothes" be practiced to the utmost extent in order to ensure that "fashion can no longer be seen as entertainment."
Because of this, "Capital B" presents itself as basically gimmick-free (apart from a few skirts made from towels or sweatshirts that have been shrunk). Instead, the emphasis is exclusively on the craftsmanship, the silhouettes, the heritage of the House and Cristóbal Balenciaga, as well as demonstrating that Demna is a true designer who is more than just a man renowned for politically charged T-shirts and contentious rapper cameos.

The position of Spring 2024 is the first indication that it should be treated seriously. The film shows 10 Avenue George V, which served as Balenciaga's residence in 1937 and is today where the House's couture collections are kept. While other models go about their daily lives, familiar Balenciaga models and muses emerge from the building's classic French door onto the street.
This laid-back Balenciaga presentation looks at skateboarders, dog walkers, two elderly women out on a stroll, delivery drivers, couriers, businessmen and women, shoppers, and everyone else you could run across on a day in Paris. Balenciaga, however, draws attention to the clothing by doing this.

Here, Garde-Robe elegance and seasonal ready-to-wear collide in style yet come together to create a collection of uniforms by Balenciaga that can be worn from day to night. According to the House, "The result is an observation of metropolitan motion, fusing Balenciaga's nexus with the pulse of real life in real-time."

Beginning with the Hourglass jacket, Balenciaga. The black dry wool gabardine exhibits Christóbal-isms in a traditional silhouette. The ensemble is completed with a rib-knit cashmere turtleneck, a maxi skirt made of the same gabardine material, pantaleggings, a new pair of Invisible Rectangle metal sunglasses, and the Hourglass Hinge medium purse. This understated elegance goes on to characterize the entire collection.

There are numerous examples of this refinement throughout the Spring 2024 program. The enormous grey Merino Prince of Wales blazer in image eight, the smooth black leather belted robe coat in look three, the dark brown bonded fake mink Balenciaga Lining Coat in look 18, and more are all highlighted.
Contrasted with lighthearted aspects, though. The Biker Boot from the Winter 2023 collection, for instance, is extravagantly evolved into a pantashoe, made from thick leather with layers of paneling and cushioning all the way from the waist to the toe. Another example is the aforementioned towel skirt. On a hybrid vehicle coat, beige cotton drill and blue denim clash and produce two pieces in one (formal from the front and casual from the back). In style 35, a parka coat is dressed to the extremes to resemble a cocoon neck dress. Stickers that are typically removed from denim are instead put as a branded accent to large jackets.
Whatever the case, "Capital B" is Demna keeping his word. As the show draws to a close, a cocktail maxi dress with black and silver sequins on top of a shiny fabric is cut into magnificent proportions. For the last look, Balenciaga creates another eye-catching garment with silver sequin fringed embroidery that gets closer and closer to demi-couture.
